Happy 2013
Well, hello there! And Happy New Year!
Don't mind my absence. I've been soaking up a holiday season full of our daughter's first everything and enjoying my sweet little family. There has been tons of baking, cooking, and eating, but I haven't been documenting much of it.
I'm not a resolution type gal, because I prefer to make a regular habit of setting small goals. One goal we are working on as a family is to eat healthier and be more active. I know, I know, that is what everyone says this time of year! But my husband and I have both been feeling sluggish, even though our one-year old gets a solid 12 hours of shut eye each night.
We joined our local YMCA and are working on cutting down our consumption of meat and eating more vegetables. I'm committing to working out 3 times a week and trying to watch my calorie intake I've download my fitness pal to my phone to help me keep track. Its fun because you can follow your friends and cheer each other on. My user name is 'megjsplawn' if you want to follow along.
If you're looking to jump start your year (and reset your system after all of that delicious holiday indulging) Bon Appetite has an awesome foodie cleanse (shoot by the talented Kimberly Hasselbrink of The Year in Food). Its not a typical cleanse of nasty cabbage soup or weird spicy sweet water - a.k.a. it doesn't suck. Lots of the recipes are worth checking out even if your just interested in healthy cooking and eating.
We're also gearing up for some serious spring gardening and I absolutely obsessed with Smart Gardener! The site helps you plan and plant a garden based on your specific location and even gives you a to-do list and sends you reminders!
You'll probably notice a few changes around here (again!) this year as we settle in to life with a toddler and I change my focus to more family cooking. I still promise to deliver cooking tips and great recipes - just changing up the style a bit.
How about all of you, what are you working on in 2013? I would love to know!
